    Job Title: QA Manager

    Location: Reston, VA


    About This Role:


    The QA Manager will be a hands-on manager role which involves 40-50% of actual hands-on testing and the rest related to managing the testing lifecycle. This position will involve working in an environment where cross skilling is essential, and quality is the responsibility of everyone within the organization. The role also involves collaborating with multiple development teams and product owners to manage the end-to-end test effort of their product and mitigate risks along the way.


    The QA Manager should be inquisitive and eager to solve complex problems by conceiving and driving innovative technical QA solutions. This position provides technical and staff leadership and sets standards for the development, documentation and implementation of test plans and test cases.


    What You’ll Do: 

    • Acts as point-person for assigned area 
    • Intimately knows the QA process at the task level; able to drill down to details, or stay at the big picture level when appropriate 
    • Formulates project plans, breaks it down to individual tasks, assigns work as appropriate 
    • Creates detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases
    • Estimates, prioritizes, plans and coordinates testing activities
    • Designs, develops and executes automation scripts using open source and in-house tools
    • Accurately estimates work required to perform tasks 
    • Builds and maintains strong internal and partnering relationships  
    • Supervises 1-5 direct reports; helps mentor and develop direct reports on appropriate career paths; ensuring staff have appropriate training, skill levels, and expertise
    • Sees big picture and system interrelationships 
    • Drives QA cycles and responsible for the team meeting deadlines 
    • Communicates effectively with project leads and the development teams  


     What You’ll Need: 

    • 5-6 years of experience in a QA role including hands-on automation and a thorough and deep knowledge of software QA design and methodologies
    • Must have the ability to apply knowledge and experience in solving problems that are complex in scope and require in-depth evaluation
    • 12 years of team management experience and/or mentoring and supervising others 
    • Excellent communication and managerial skills 
    • Motivated self-starter
    • Open and excited to learn new technologies
    • Ability to seek and provide feedback; handles tough issues with tactfulness  
    • Ability to form partnerships and push back when appropriate 
    • Ability to develop and direct the growth of direct reports; coach for top performance 
    • Exceptionally Internet savvy; passion for the internet ecosystem; awareness of Internet trends and eco systems (i.e. http2, SPDY, html5, ipV6 etc.) 
    • Knowledge of OS (i.e. Windows, Mac OS, Linux) and/or mobile platforms (i.e. iOS. Android, Windows Mobile, etc.) including editing the registry, manipulating host and/or config files, commands like grep, ssh, curl, shell scripting, etc. 
    • Solid understanding of HTTP and network protocols including but not limited to UDP, TCP/IP, SSL Handshakes, DHCP Conversation, etc. 
    • Strong logic with basic PERL scripting skills 
    • Strong SQL skills
    • Experience with REST Client and API testing
    • Well versed with Web Debugging tools such as Fiddler, Wireshark, etc. 
    • Excellent troubleshooting skills, independently identifying root causes and possible resolutions
    • Ability to read, understand and debug code
    • Required Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field
