    Job Title: Technical Writer II

    Location: Portland, OR (PDX Office)

     

    About This Role:

     

    The Technical Writer has experience creating, managing and editing documentation in a tech-focused industry. Prior knowledge of data analytics is a plus. You are well versed in a broad array of authoring and publishing tools and can collaborate effectively with product teams, stakeholders, developers, support and quality engineers. Your responsibility is to author customized technical documentation, such as guides, tutorials, web-based help systems and specifications for internal and external use. Additionally, you may find yourself working to maintain documentation on internal Wikis as well as documenting internal engineering processes and specifications. Most importantly, you want users to find the right information quickly!

     

    What You’ll Do:

    • Turning the coolest new technologies in Big Data into simple, usable information that is easily digestible by end-users
    • Executing in all phases of documentation from planning, designing, writing, and editing to publishing and resource management
    • You are responsible for actively engaging stakeholders to identify and document their current environment
    • Creating task-based help articles targeted at business users and administrators

     

    What You’ll Need:

    • Bachelors Degree in English, Journalism, or related field is a plus 
    • 2-4 years of professional experience in technical writing, editing, or related work preferred
    • Experience working with Software Development teams, and firm understanding of the SDLC; Experience working in QA or customer-facing roles is a plus
    • Experience with MadCap Flare, RoboHelp, JIRA (or similar), MS Office products, Wiki sites (Confluence preferred) and web-based content required
    • Ability to work independently and manage your time wisely
    • You have some exposure how Agile teams run and can balance the wants of stakeholders with the needs of users
    • You can take product requirements from a Jira ticket and work with development teams to turn that information in to task-based documentation
    • Proven ability to learn and describe complicated, abstract technology as well as products, functions, and features in clear and helpful language, using industry-standard and common language as appropriate for the audience
    • Proven ability to harvest information from subject matter experts, and cross-functional team members
    • Ability to work closely in a collaborative role with other team members of varying levels of technical expertise
